I have been building, moving, grinding, drilling, wiring, testing and powering the solid state conversion through March and some of the results are looking good. The donated batteries hold a substantial charge and power ALL of the low-load devices (electronics, lights, and small motors) and with a decent upgrade could start handling the load of a couple large devices (small refrigerator, electric kettle). This has been what I've been most busy with in March.
In march I moved by foot, bike, bus and car to go near and far in search of career opportunities. The results of this process have been disappointing as most positions in respectable companies are not entry level - often requiring 3+ years experience in my field. Being a recent graduate doesn't have the perks that I thought it would. Most of the available "entry-level with high turnover" jobs in Niagara were in call-centres and hospitality. Call-centres, both marketing and customer service, pay a subsistence wage which is made only more difficult when a University graduate like myself also needs to pay down debt along with supporting myself. Hospitality is not easy to generalize, and it is also not easy to find any type of consistency or job security bouncing between companies. Some places are better than others in both camps. Now that that rant is over I can move on to the good news.
The good news about the job hunt is that I have a couple of interviews and they are with respectable companies that are known to be a great choice for graduates. Best of all almost all of them have positions that can make use of my degree - either through management, public relations, soothsaying, or any number of spins that can come from the "Jack of all trades" Political Science degree. Great news for now, and with all hope it continues.
As mentioned earlier, the weather is warm enough for me to start hitting the road again with "Faster and Faster" my aptly named bicycle. After a cleaning, some repair, and adding some new features I've even had an opportunity to finish a 45 degree on the Greater Niagara Circle Route starting in Welland (GNCR-45-Welland). The route is a box going from Port Colborne to St.Catharines to NOTL to Fort Erie and back around - so a St.C to Fort Erie run is a 180 degree run (GNCR-180-StC or GNCR-180-StCRR (Reverse Run)). Hopefully once the Golden Motor (http://www.goldenmotor.com) project starts I can finish the GNCR-360 while the sun is up.
Plenty more going on, and I will have those quick reports up ASAP.
